St. Eugene's primary school is now more than 40 years old. It was opened in 1960 to replace the old school at Breen. Originally under the jurisdiction of Glenock Parish, Newtownstewart, it changed to become the responsibility of the Parish of St. Theresa in Sion Mills. The present Parish priest, Fr. Bernard Bryson, takes his responsibilities very seriously and Supports the school through frequent pastoral visits as well as being chairman of the board Of Governors. The numbers of pupils have fluctuated throughout the schools history, beginning as a two Teacher establishment under the care of Mr. Doherty [deceased] and Mrs. Houston [deceased]. It became a three, then a four teacher school with the addition of Mr. Harrorn And Mrs. McNally. In subsequent years Miss Morris, Ms McHugh, Ms Corry and Mrs.Conlon also taught in the school. Pupil numbers declined until 1995 the school was again reduced to two teachers. We now face the future with increasing confidence, having forty children on role and a new building site in progress across the road from our school. The present teaching staff is Mrs. Maria McGuigan [formerly Miss Morris] and Ms Bridget Devine.
Many of our past pupils still retain contact with the school through the various school functions and through the internet. The links are carried on with former pupils' children now attending St. Eugene's. We welcome any contact from past pupils or from anyone interested in finding out more about our school. We can be contacted at our email address or messages can be left on our guestbook.
